EMINENT Study

Title:                   Early minimally invasive image-guided endoscopic surgery of intracerebral haemorrhage (EMINENT-ICH): a randomized controlled trial
Short summary:

Intracerebral haemorrhages are the second most common form of stroke associated with a high mortality and morbidity rate. Despite intense research, an sufficiently effective treatment is still missing. Currently, several new medical but also surgical treatment options are under investigation and the University Hospital Basel is paying an important role in that process. In collaboration with the Department of Neurology, the Department of Neurosurgery is preparing a randomized controlled trial based on the promising results of a pilot trial on endoscopic (camera-guided) hematoma removal, the EMINENT-ICH trial. In this trial, we compare endoscopic hematoma evacuation to the current standard of care and investigate the impact on favourable outcome and survival rates. We developed this study together with patients, care-givers and patient organisation representatives to asses patient relevant outcome measures and to accommodate the course of the study to the needs of the patients. The University Hospital Basel, its departments and also the Department of Neurosurgery are frontrunners in the development of patient oriented research in Switzerland.
